You go to the art institute and stare at the brilliant brush strokes and carefully crafted pots all day. But it won’t give you the artists touch. Be your own Degas with today’s Swoop: $19 for a BYOB art class in drawing, printmaking, jewelry and mixed media collage from One Strange Bird (a $40 value).

One Strange Bird is an artist-owned studio and boutique. They’re dedicated to showcasing local artists and bonding art with the general community by removing the boundaries that separate the arts (pinkies up, everyone) from arts and crafts. Each class caters to a variety of interests and skill levels. So even if you still haven’t gotten a grasp on ROYGBIV, they’ll be happy to get you started. Their introduction to drawing will show you different mediums to use and start you off with sketching exercises. In printmaking, you'll learn to carve stamps for personalized stationary, greeting cards or any other kind of artwork. You can be your own jewelry designer in the hand-crafted jewelry class, where you'll work with wire wrapping, beading and light metal work. Mixed media will teach you to use other images, image transfer techniques and paint to create your own unique piece of art. Classes are available Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons (see below for class dates). Each class is BYOB, so bring enough Pinot Gris to share or to let your artistic side roam free. It's a perfect outing for friends, family or whoever wants to get a taste of the arts. So swoop in on today’s deal and unleash your inner da Vinci.
